A Case Study of Art Psychotherapy for a Male Adolescent Experiencing PTSD Symptoms from Loss of Mother

Abstract

|
This research aimed at measuring the effects of Art Psychotherapy in reducing DEP and SUI. The object was a male adolescent showing PTSD symptoms such as depression and suicidal crisis coming from loss of mother. The treatment was provided for 20 sessions over 6 months from Sep. 2012 to Feb. 2013. Each session had 60 minutes once a week. Before and after each session, the tests were done. Each session the subject was observed and described in detail. The results were found between assessment and completion of treatment. The results are as follows. The analysis of PAI-A test showed the reduction of DEP. The analysis of SUI showed the reduction of SUI. The analysis of Tree-test showed the positive changes of self-image. 1) Art Psychotherapy made positive effects in reducing the teenager’s DEP. 2) Art Psychotherapy made positive effects in adjusting the teenager’s SUI. 3) Tree-test showed the change from dead tree to profusion of tree. This case study suggests that Art Psychotherapy may be beneficial to adolescents experiencing symptoms of PTSD and have considerable effects in the positive changes of DEP and SUI for teenagers.
